An independent tabletop studio

Two brothers.
One yoke. A game worth replaying.

Oxen Games is building strategy games meant to last — starting with a two-player abstract game currently in blind testing.

Why oxen

Built by two, pulling the same direction.

Oxen Games started as a conversation between two brothers who grew up around a farm in southern Alberta, and who have spent years playing, arguing over, and refining strategy games together.

An ox team only works when both animals are equally yoked, pulling toward the same point, at the same pace, for the long haul. That's the model we're building the company on: patient, deliberate, and built to outlast any single release.

We're not a farm-themed studio. The rural memory is where the name comes from — the discipline and the partnership are what it's meant to represent going forward.

Our first release

A two-player abstract strategy game.

Currently referred to internally as Arrows — a working title, not a confirmed final name.

In development

Simple rules. Room to think.

Two players, one board, and decisions that compound. The rules are meant to be learned in minutes — the strategy is meant to take much longer to run out of.

We're currently in blind testing: handing the rulebook to players we've never coached, and watching what breaks.

Follow along

We're building this in public.

No polished announcements yet — just the real process, documented as it happens.

Design notes

Board changes, rule revisions, and the problems we're still trying to solve — including ones we haven't solved yet.

Playtest logs

What testers actually understood, misunderstood, and whether they wanted to play again.

The long build

Prototypes, materials, and the slower work of turning a game into a company.
